THE ROTARY CLUB OF PUNE METRO The Rotary Club of Pune Metro is a vivacious group of professionals coming from multifarious backgrounds such as business entrepreneurs, and senior business executives, Medicine, Law, Education, Chartered Accountancy, Auditing, Tourism, and Architecture. The club is famed for its friendly culture , love for music, drama and the fine arts, apart from the enthusiasm for helping the underprivileged, the disadvantaged and the needy. Registered on 24th April 1996 , Metro received its charter on the 28th June 1996. Currently, there are 55 members. The club has a large percentage of lady Rotarians. Out of 55 members, there are 20 ladies, comprising 32% of Club strength. Two lady Rotarians are members of the Board of Directors(BOD). * The Club often undertakes unique social projects relevant to the youth and disadvantaged sections of the society. The members are equally enthusiastic about activities in Rotary beyond their immediate club. The club is also known to obtain top honours in activities such as plays, music programmes, sports competitions and cultural events. * The club takes pride in its latest venture – the Global Grants Project which will enable Metro to help five disadvantaged schools around Pune. Metro will provide them basic amenities besides computers etc. * The Rotary Club of Pune Elite is its sister club which received its charter recently. * Major on going projects of the club include "Tarunyabhan" an intensive three day programme conducted by Dr.Rani Bang for teenagers that focusses on their medical, social, physiological and emotional concerns, a "vivah-mela" or a gathering of eligible bachelors who are HIV positive, and a two day workshop for marginal women entreprenuers on accounting, marketing and relevant business skills and blood donation programmes. * Construction of specially designed play area with swings, slides and other play equipment for physically handicapped children, sanitation blocks for rural schools, publishing of a book on inspiring stories of first generation entreprenuers are some of the other novel projects undertaken by the club. * The Club has donated a well equipped Service Van to Jankalyan Raktapedhi for the speedy transport of blood elements under temperature control. In the current year, the club has renovated the lab of the Jankalyan Raktapedhi. * A toilet block has been constructed for the poor students at their hostel at Asade. The Club has taken up Traffic Safety Awareness project and has produced three cartoon films to highlight the issue. These films are screened in all major multiplexes and theatres. All on-going projects that the Rotary organization promotes at national and international levels are also taken up by the club with verve. These include polio eradication, personality development programmes for youth, vocational and service excellence awards that recognise different sections of society, tree plantation, international youth exchange programmes and teachers’ felicitation. WE MEET EVERY THURSDAY AT 7.30 PM AT THE DECCAN GYMKHANA, PUNE
