Teachers Training Programme Conducted at Panditrao Agashe English Medium School, Law College raod , Pune. Dated 4.11.2015 Resource person Dr Megha Deuskar [ M.A. Psychology, PhD] Asst Professor, Department of Psychology, Fergusson College , Coordinator Post Graduate Diploma in Counseling Psychology Well the experience of this training programme was unique, not only for the teachers but Rotarians who were present at the venue. Unique in the sense, there were no tools offered to teachers to quick fix the problems of students or parents. Their sensitivities were touched first to be a human being, just being yourself – understanding ourself and accepting it without any judgement. This was done in an interactive manner and the Principal and her teachers participated freely . We saw tears in their eyes and we saw smile on their faces. All experienced what empathetic hearing means to inner voice and to the difficulties of students and parents. How to handle students problems by being empathetic, non judgmental and in a humanitarian way was demonstrated with 4 minutes sharing in pair, each person talked for 4 minutes and then listened to other person for 4 minutes. Confidentiality as a prerequisite was stressed. Rotarian whowere present were quick enough to see the futility of the lecture beyond just teachers training programme. Some saw change in their attitude towards their employees, some saw importance of a friend with whom they wanted –just to share their feelings. The speaker was animated, sensitive, empathetic . She had given apt heading to the programme as : TEACHERS AS MENTORS . She expressed her thanks to Rotary for giving the opportunity.
